AUCKLAND COAL.
| STRONG BID FOR SUPPLIES. (By Correspondent.) Aupkland, October 31. The shutting out of coal from the city is oausing those in need of this class oMuel to bid strongly for supplies. Not only does this apply to orders placed with coal merchants, but also to some who, having laid in big stocks for their own use, aro willing to accept the rather tempting offer being made'by less fortunate consumers Concern las been expressed relative to tlie city and suburban water supply. At a meeting of the Manukau Water Supply Board on Wednesday, it was decided to ask consumers—residents of Epsom, One Tree Hill, und Mount Roskill—to be economical in their use of water, as only three weeks' supply of fuel was in handler the pumping plant. The 'City Waterworks Superintendent (Mr. Carlaw) informed l a reporter that he had sufficient coke in stock for at least three weeks. This was required at the Rhyber Pass pumping' 'station, and, .while consumers would be wis© to exercise care in the use of water, ho did not see any immediate cause for alarm.
