BY POLICE OR SPECIAL CONSTABLES. ' The.police state that neither any of their men or any epeoial oonatable fired.a shot during the meleo in the Post Office Square on Thursday. One of the mounted men, who was displaced from*his saddle, and was receiving a very rough handling by tie orowd, did draw his revolver, but did not fire, as has been alleged. As soon as he regained his mount, ho rode away, but at no time did he pull the trigger of his revolver. As there are known to bo a number of armed men amongst the crowd, it ,is concluded that one of these, either accidentally or purposely, fired in the excitement of the moment.
