WAIRARAPA READY.
MANY VOLUNTEERS ENROLLED. The seriousness of the strike is causing grave concern in the Wairarapa, ana at the Carterton Show yesterday farmers were busy enrolling volunteers to come to Wellington to assist in tho maintenance of law and order and- tho resumption of tho transport system. Fairly early in the morning Mr. W. Howard Booth, one of tho most active of the campaigners, made- a spoech at the ground, appealing for volunteers and liorses. Enrolling was then commenced, and continued all day. While some of tho officers of tiro P. and A. Society carried on the business of tho show, others, notably Messrs'. W\Howard Booth, W. Henry Booth, Hugh Morrison, and Broadbont- conducted tho campaign. Sir Walter Buchanan was also present-. The call was well responded to, and ( it was considered probable that a special train, with men and horses, would leavo there last night. Tho strength of _ the contingent is not known, but it- is considered not at all unlikely that it will amount to well over 100. This is the result of only one day's organising, and tfeere are some who could not guarantee to come without first going home, and making further'arrangements for their absence.
