HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.)
Shortly after twelve o'clock yesterday a lire broke out in tho wash-house adjoining tho rcsidenco of Mr. R. Edwards, Potono Avenue, aud the small building was soon reduced to ruins. The wash-house contained two rooms, ono of which had two bed's ancl a quantity of furniture. Unfortunately those who first discovered the fire did not 'know how to work the alarm and simply broko tho glass without ringing tho bell. This accounted for tho delay of the brigade in arriving at the lire, which had almost spent its force. The building and contents were insured in the Phoenix Office for £45, and Mr. Edwards estimates his loss over insurance at .S'3o. Mrs. Edwards had been washing and was in the yard hanging out the clothes when a neighbour acquainted her with the fact that tho wasli-houso was on fire.
