HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

At tho Mayor's room, Petoiw, oil Tuesday evening Prof. Owen Cardston addressed representatives of tho Petono Municipal Hand, St. John Ambulanco Brigade, and the Ambulanco Van Committeo on "How to Finance" in reference to bazaars. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presided. Tho speaker said' that bazaars were his specialty as a means of raising money for institutions, and went on to indicate whatmight be done at Petone. A discussion took place regarding the matter of apportioning the proceeds amongst tho institutions interested. The Mayor suggested that the Ijand receive two-thirds and other bodies oiie-third of tho profits. The Ambulanco Brigade considered 50 per cent, sufficient for tho band. The estimated receipts of tho Hutt Valley Labour Day Carnival are £136 and tho expenditure £90. An enjoyable dance was hold at St. Augustine's Hall this week by the members of Mrs. J. Pollock's assembly. There was a good attendance, Mr. L. I.'ecsby acted as M.C., and Mrs. Pollock supplied tho music. Visitors wero prescrt from tho Rona Bay Gleo Club, and their choruses were much appreciated. Mr. Sluek-Ryan, Mr. ,R. M'Vay,. and Mr. B. Smith also rendered items.
