ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE GENEE SEASON. Tho admirable dancing of Mdlle. Genee, M. Volinin, and the Russian Ballet is attracting huge audiences to the Opera House nightly, and tlio delightfully artistic entertainment provided continues to arouse enthusiasm. Mdlle. Adeiine Genee is the living embodiment of the poetry of motion, and is a brilliant comedy actress as well. It will be a long time before playgoers forget the excellent performance of the Danish dancer and M. Volinin in "Coppelia." A change of programme is to bo submitted this evening. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. At His Majesty's Theatre tho Croydons have made a. popular hit • with their extremely clever and artistic spectre elog-danciug specialties—a new version of tho old statute ciog-dance, in which the performers dance cleverly and break off at intervals to strike poses of a statuesque' character, which ■ aro enhanced by the white costumes and make-up of the dancers. Other good performers now oil the bill are: The Three Bros. Vardell, Lalia Brook, Armstrong and Ilowarth, Johnson and Conway, La Perle, Gabriello Hope, May Brilliant, and Foolish Ford. KING'S THEATRE. "From Circus to Raeecourse" is the titlo of a very exciting sporting photoplay at present being shown at the King's Theatre. Tho play has a plot that grips, and includes a splendid presentation of the race for tho Grand Prix in Paris. Other pictures of equal merit embraced in the programme arc: "The Village Blacksmith" (based on tho popular song), and "Tho Riot," a genuinely comic picture which raises shrieks of laughter. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. A complete change of programme will be introduced at tho Empress Theatre continuous pictures to-day and to-night. Tho series will include three featuro dramas—"A Modest Hero," an -exciting adventure with a desperado, by tho A.B. Company; "His Conscience," a powerful Lubin masterpiece; and "Black Beauty," a story or an intelligent horse who saves his mistress's life. There will also be "Bucharest," a magnificent scenic studv; "Father's Chicken Dinner," a hilarious A.B. farce-comedy; "Tho Hit of the Season," an uproariously laughable Pathe comedy, and others. New selections will be contributed this evening by tho Empress full orchestra. THE COMPETITIONS. It was felt at the outset that tlio first festival of tho New Zealand Competitions Society, held in 1911, would be somewhat in the nature of an experiment. It has already gono far past the stago at which experiments aro dubious, for this year tho third festival, which commences next Monday in tho Town Hall, the entries exceed in every section those of the previous year. Competitors aro coining from all over the Dominion, and even from Australia. Over 1000 competitors will journey to Wellington in connection with this event, and remain hero nearly. 18 days. The box plan for tho whole season, 14 days, is now open at tlio Dresden, where season tickets and ordinary tickets may bo obtained.
