THE FEDERATION OF EMPLOYERS.
YEARLY CONFERENCE. Delegates to the New Zealand Employers Federation met in Wellington for their annual conference yesterday morning, under the presidency of Mr. W. Hopkirk. Delegates present, representing the associate branches of the federation, were as follow: —Auckland, Messrs. E. A. Craig, G. A. Coles, W. J. Jaggs, and H. W. Hudson; Poverty Bay, Mr. James Brown; Hawke's Bay, Messrs. P. Barry, H. J. Bull, S. E. Wright (secretary); Wafrarnpa, Mr. C. A. Tabuteau (secretary); Wanganui, Messrs. G. Caiman and J. W. Williams (secretary); Manawatu, Messrs. C. F. Johnston, F. J. Nathan, and W. M'Kenzie (secretary); Feilding, Mr. P. Pirani; Wellington, Messrs. T. Ballingor, J. Godber, W. J. Thompson, and W. A. W. Grenfell (secretary) ; Canterbury, Messrs. ,H. D. Acland, J. A. Frostick, F. W. Hobbs, K. F. England, and J. R. Hayward; South Canterbury, Messrs. R. R. Bowie and W. G. Irwin; Otago, Messrs. J. W. Henton, G. Simpson, and W. Scott (secretary); and Southland, Messrs. S. Craig and A. S. Cookson (secretary). Other associations were represented as follow: New Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association, Messrs. J\V. A. Fla.vell and G. G. Townsend; New Zealand Gold Mine Owners' Association, Dr. C. P. Knight; New Zealand Sheepowners' Federation, Mr. T. Moss; New Zealand Builders' Federation, Messrs. J. H. Maynard, and J. Lindsay ; New Zealand Licensed Victuallers' Association, Sir. J. Beveridgc; Gas Companies' Association of Now- Zealand, Mr. W.'Ferguson; New Zealand Plumbers' Association, Messrs. G. Remington and H. Ha win; New Zealand Master Printers' Association, Mr. H. Coull; New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Association, Mr. G. A>. Coles; New Zealand Warehousemen's Association, Mr. W.J. Hueston; New Zealand Shipowners' Federation, Mr. W. E. Fuller; and the freezing companies by Mr. W. G. Foster, Messrs. W. H. Bennett and W. A. FlavcH (trustees), 'Mr. R. A. Scott (treasurer), Mr. W. Pryer (general secretary), Mr. N. M'Robie (assistant secretary), and Mr. R. A. Armstrong (organiser) were also in attendance. In welcoming the delegates, tho president expressed the hope that the conference would result in benefiting members of the federation and the Dominion as a whole. In moving adoption ■of the annual report and balance-sheot, which was carried, the president congratulated tho federation on the results secured in connection with the organising and defence fund campaign. He appealed for further assistance and hoped that there would he no going back. With regard to Parliamentary industrial legislation, the president said that the time had more than come for a cessation of the burdens that were being placed on employers of labour. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. W. J. Jaggs, W. H. Bonnett, 11. D. Acland, G. Simpson, and W. Scott was set up to consider the question of tho nomination of employers' representatives on tho Arbitration Court and report to the meeting as early as possible. The afternoon session was taken up with tho consideration of a new constitution for the federation.' A number'of clauses were adopted subject to confirmation when the whole constitution has been considered.
