A curious feature of tlio'election is that General Huerta, although not a candidate, secured' a heavy vote in many districts, particularly Vera Cruz. General Felix Diaz did not exercise tho franchise, nor did ho participate, as was erroneously announced, in a meeting of candidates undor General Hucrta'-s direction, when each decided to abide by the result. General Diaz regards himself .as practically . a prisoner. Ho remaius at Vera Cruz. ''Times"—Sydney "Sun" Spceinil Cables. (Rec. October 28, 7.40 p.m.) Mexico City, October 28. Less than ten thousand _ out of eighty thousand eligible votes in Mexico City went to the polls at tlie Presidential election. The officials offered 110 coercion. Tho voters' ballot boxes consisted of miscellaneous receptacles—pasteboard boot-boxes, a plush jewel case, a druggist's glass jar being amongst them. Huerta is issuing a decree increasing tho army from 85,000 to 150,000. Mexico City, Ootobor 27. General Carranza, the rebel leader, interviewed, said tho statements regarding alleged atrocious conduct on the part of tlio rebels are probably unfounded. Ho declared that Presjdeilt Huerta murdered the late President Madero, and was attempting to carry out ' ex-President Diaz's despotic methods. General Carranza refused to recognise any President returned at the present fraudulent- election, and said lie would execute anyone who did.
