BIRD SANCTUARY.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, October 28. Tho Hobson Acclimatisation Society is seeking to have ft large areii declared as a sanctuary for the purpose of breeding; suitable birds, whose progeny will be availablo for distribution amongst other societies. The area ovev which th i society has jurisdiction embraces the whole of Hobson County, a consid-erable-portion of Otamatca, tho \Vaipoua Riding of Hokianga, and a largu stietoli of Mangakahin, territory bmco it* inception ten years ago it has expended £1500, and has widely disseminated pheasants, ducks, deer, and trout throughout its district. The Hobson. aren is claimed to-be tho premier pheasant country in the Dominion, and overy sesson some thousands of the birds fall to tho guns of sportsmen.
