BOYS' INSTITUTE BAZAAR.

OPENED YESTERDAY. Yostorday afternoon the bazaar which has been organised, by a large number of workers for tho benefit of the Boys' Institute was op'oncd by Her Excellency the Countess or Liverpool. For months past work has vigorously been prosecuted with this object In view, and it is hopefy that tho bazaar will during tho next few days meet with tho success that tho object for which it has been organised' deserves. The largo hall presented a charming appearance. Festoons of pink and white drapery had been carried round tho outside of tho gallery, and from the central gasoliers wore suspended streamers of tho samo two colours,_ which alternated wjth ropes of lycopodium and tiny clecfcric coloured bulbs. Underneath the gallery had been erected tho stalls, each fronted with a white trellis work over which was twined lycopodium and dolicatelyoolotired flowers—japonica, rwcct peas, cornflowers, roses, _ sunflowers, etc.— each stall having its own particular flower. Tho stago had been massed with foliage and flowers, and it at tho further end was tho tea-room', made most attractive with white trelliswork covered with lycopodium and scarlet flowers. All tho tables were arranged with scarlet flowers, and trails of lycopodium starred with scarlet flowers wero charmingly effective against the white walls and ceiling. Tho Hon. F. M. B. Fislior apologised for the unavoidable abseneo of tho Prime Minister, who was to have occupied tho chair that afternoon, and in tho course of a brief speech mado appreciative references to tho arduous work which had been dono by so. many ladies for the institute. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. I\ Luke) also spoke in tho same strain, and referred to tho interest which Her Excellency had displayed l in tho' undertaking. Her Excellency (who upon her arrival had been mot and welcomed by Mrs. W. F. Massey, Mr. Troup, Mrs. H. D. Bell, tho Hon. F. M. B. Fisher and Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Herdman, Mrs. Moorhouse, Mr. Bennett, rtnd Miss Holm) oxpressed tho regret she felt at tho abseifco of Mrs. Rhodes, who had taken so deep <in interest in tho institute, and after wishing tho bazaar every success during tho week, declared it open. A beautiful bouquet of heliotropo and violet anemones was presented hor and violot anemones was presented to her by a very tiny maiden. H«r Excellency th'on made the found of tho stalls and tho business of tho afternoon was fairly commenced. Kennedy, Miss Mario Fix, Mr. Stanley Rankine, and a vory fine orchestra. _ In the eveiij ing a programme of nraefc was contributed by tlio City, Battalion, and Central Mission Bands, arid bt the Quartet Party "of the' Boys' Institute. One of the great attractions of tlie ovening wero tho displays of pageant groups, whicTi will be given every night. Hot Excellency tho Countess of Liverpool wore, yesterday afternoon, a gown ; of soft brown silk and a wide white velours hat with a sweeping brown feather. Mrs. Bell was in grey velvet and small floral toque; Mrs. A. L. Hordman, grey and small toque; Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher was in black and white: Mrs. Moorhouse, black, and a black hat. Tho Mayore-ss also wore bla-ck. This afternoon tlie bazaar will be opened by-Mrs. W. F. Massey, with Mr. J. P. Luke (tlie Maror) in the cliair. ! Total for Tuesday wore nearly £2-00 of which £85 was taken during tlio afternoon.
