KARORI COUNCIL.
Tho fortnightly mooting of tho Karori Borough Council was held last evening. Tho Mayor (Mr._ C. Cathie) prc : sided and there was a full attendance of councillors. ~ Application was made by Mr. E. S._ Douglas for tho uso of a portion of tho park for tho purposo of giving lessons m golf. -Tliero was considerable discussion as to' whether permission should bo granted, Councillor Gimino _ moving as an amendment that tho applicant bo asked to pay £5 per annum tor tho use of the parlt. Councillor Hamilton opposed the amendment. Ho considered tho council must popularise tho park. Other councillors (including tho Mayor) favoured his 'statement. At this stage Councillor Henderson remarked that any Clio would think the council was selling tho park with tho exhaustive discussion taluiig place. It was eventually decided to grant the permission asked, subject to tho discretion of tho engineer. ' , , A communication was read from JUr. John Burns, asking tho council to cottinuo a footpath on tho southern side of'the main road up to a point which would give his property access.thereto. The matter was referred to tho Works Committee. Tho City Corporation advised, in reference to tho discarding of twopenny tickets between tho Botanical Gardens and Johnston Street, that 134,000 tickets had been cancelled and that a voucher, amounting to £7 ss. 2d. in favour of the council, had been- passed for payment. In reference to the proposal to insert a clause in tho Municipal Corporations Amendment Bill, enabling local authorities to run moving picture entertainments, a reply was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs advising that provision was being made in the direction desired. Complaint was made by two ratepayers that a certain car leaving for town had left some minutes early and had seriously .inconvenienced them. Attention had already been drawn to the tramway authorities of this matter by tho Town Clerk. As no reply had been received it was decided to forward anothor letter iuforming the authorities that tho same trouble often occurs and suggesting that the controlling, clocks at Karori wero tho cause'of tho trouble. The engineer reported that tho Malcarn, Hill break-wind had been commenced on October 25. Tho concrete blocks ordered by the council to be laid had been completed in Johnston Street and at tho old tram terminus. The report stated that tho tea rooms had been broken into, evidently by boys, and a quantity of chocolate and soft drinks stolen. Slight damage had been also done to the croquet lawns. These acts w<iro of frequent occurrence. He had given instructions that in future the gates be locked at sunset-, while tho police had been acquainted of tho matter.
