CHANGES IN THE CONSTITUTION. A committoo of tlhe Senate was busy yesterday dealing with the proposed ehanges in tlia constitution of the University. There were present Sir Robert Stout, Chancellor, in tho chair, and Professors F. D. Brown, Maemillan Brown, Ohiltou, Hunter, and Marshall, Dr.. M'Dowoll, Dr. Fitchott, tho Itev. Mr. Cameron and Messrs. Hogben and Von Haast. Tho committee passed resolutions which are afterwards to he cmbodied in a Bill to bo submitted t4 tho Senate, and, if the Senate approves, to the Legislature. The- committee was practically unanimous, and their conclusions miy bo summarised as follow:—(1) The Senate is to remain as at present. (2) A board of studies of sixteen members is to be chosen by tho four Professorial Boards —four members by each. (3) This board is to make recommendations on all academic matters, and to -be. consulted thereon by the Senate before any statutes are passed by the Seriate. (4) Tho board is to meet annually. (5) A cominitteo consisting of Sir Robert Stout. Dr. Fitchott, Messrs. Von Haast and Hogben, and Professor Hunter aro to prepare the Bill. The proposals carry out in the main tho wishes of tlho councils of Otago University and Canterbury Collego. _____
