THE PAGEANT.
LARGE CROWDS LOOK ON. Fully eight spectators assembled at Nowtown Park yesterday afternoon, followed by another largo attendance at night, to witness repeat performances of tho historical pageant promoted in aid of the Boys Institute. After Saturday's performances, which were somewhat in tho nature of rehearsals, yesterday's presentations went off witliout hitch, and each tableau was greeted with hearty applause. The presentation of tho first Prince of Wales to the Welsh people, the knighting of Walter Ralekh by Queen Elizabeth, tho ladies of the Georgian era, Florence Nightingale and nurses at Scutari,_ the arts and industries, and Britannia and tho All Nations, were perhaps tho most successful of tho fifteen tableau, the last-named being In tho nature of a grand finalo, th<? whola of the assembled performers participating and presenting a' strikingly picturesque sight. This massed tableau had to be omitted on Saturday because ef tho wind, which made it very unpleasant for the performers , in tho earlier episodes. A 20-guinca epergne is offered as a prizo for the convener of the best tableau, and voting papers have been handed in at each of tho four performances. Tho result is expected to 'bo announced to-day, along ■with the results of the dancing competitions. Preparations are now complete for the bazaar which is to ho opened in the Town Hall this afternoon and continued until Saturday evening as an addendum to the pageant. Hor Excellency ' tho' Countess of Liverpool will perform tho opening ceremony at 3 o'clock to-day, tho Primo Minister (the Hon, W. F, Massey) presiding. Mrs. Massey will reopen the bazaar tomorrow, tho Slayer presiding, and tho Mayoress will perform tho ceremony on Thursday. The Town Hall lias been effectively decorated, a pink and white canopy Doing suspended from tho central electrolier, from which hang garlands of pink and white roses, with lycopodium intertwined and strung to white poles, surmounted by floral! ■wreaths. Tho gallery is also draped in ..pink and white, intertwined with flowers, and underneath tho gallerv are stalls, So in number, each being decorated with distinctive flowers. Entertainments and competitions will tnko place afternoon and evening, on Friday there will bo a cat show, and Saturday will bo set apart for tho children, each of whom will receive a present and bo allowed to visit tho side-shows with their parents free of charge. ■
