The- usual < procession was held and was followed by a sports gathoring. In tho amateur half-mile A. Dormer, from BCratch, won in lmin. 58 l-ssec., which equals his Now Zealand record for the distance. Ho won without being pushed and had ho been challenged, could easily have clipped a second off the record. ] In tho chopping match between .D. Pretty and G. M'Cauley for the best out of thrco chops, Pretty won the first two chops and the match. Ho got through a 12-inch log in 2min. Ssec., , and a 15-inch log in 4mic. 2 3-ssec. Tho •' pair afterwards gave an eshibition of T underhand chop, Pretty conceding a v handicap of 20sec. and winning. f 1
