"(By Telferaph.—Press Association.) ON S.S. TYRONE. SOME SUCCESSFUL WORK. Dunedin, October 27. Diver Millar and his. assistants have been very successful with salvage operations in connection with tho Tyrone during the past couple of days, cargo of an estimated value of about £1600 having been taken out and dispatched to Port Chalmers. The cargo brought into port to-day included raw and boiled linseed oil, white lead, putty, sheep dip, whisky, and other commodities, all apparently as good as on the day it was shipped. Further operations are being pushed aloug, and, given a reasonable share of favourable weather, it is probable that practically the whole of tho cargo will be salvaged. The rumour that a small portion of the cargo had been salvaged by unauthorised persons : is warmly resented by .those, in charge of operations, while the increasing vigilance of the Customs and police officials stationed on the shore at the scene of : the wreck makes any $uoh attempt- extremely hazardous. BRIEF MENTION. AuoKland, October 27. Two buildings at - Papatoetoo, owned by Mr. J. C. Buokland, and occupied by Mr. Fred were destroyed by firo early this morning, Thames, Ootober 27, A fire at Hauraki Plains did oo.msiflerable damage to some unoccupied sections. OPENING FOR' RECRUITS. Auckland:, October 27. The H.M.S. Pyramus arrived from the Hebrides this morning. She proceeds South later, and is due at Napier on Ootober 30, and Wellington on November 1.; She has vacancies for a, number of recruits. SHEARING SHED DESTROYED. Chrlstchurch, October 27. The Broadfteld shearing shed, togother with" 17 bales of wool, was destroyed by fire early on.Sunday morning. Tho building and machinery were insured for £285 in the Farmers' Co-ojiorativo Insurance Company. 1
