SPORT WITH THE RIFLE
TRICKY DAY AT TRENTHAM. Saturday was nob an ideal day for riflo shooting, tho southerly galo which was blowing being full of difficulties for riflemen on all tlio ranges. At Trctitfliam tho wind was strong, but fairly steady. After firing commenced, ■ it dropped off scmowhat, so that those who snot Inst at the shorter range had somowlmt of nu. advantago over those who jvcro first down. At 500 yards conditions were just tho rb\'erse, as the wind began to gather strength towards tho close of tho shooting. Tho attendance on tho range was not very large, tho boisterous nature of tho weather and numerous counter-attiactions —including that on t'lie neighbouring "paddock" —conspiring to keep many away. KARORI RIFLE CLUB. The Karori Club fired a match for Mr. W. H. Tisdall's trophy—ten shots ' each at 300 and 500 yards. The prize was won by Rifleman A. C. Maise.v, with 91, of which 86 were "off the rifle." TII9 best of the scratch men was Riflemai F. W. Ching who also got 86. The feature of tho match was tho good scoring of the handicap men, i several of whom aro quite r.ew shots. Tho Karori Club is sending a team of a dozen men- to Greytown to-day, to fire a match against the local club.' Tlie first match of tho championship 6eries will be fired next Saturday.
