UNPOSTED LETTERS;
ALLEGED FRAUDULENT STATEMENT. (By TeleErapli.-I'rwss AMMlatJon.) • Auckland, October 25. Rtiport Norman Uron, a bank ein« ploveo, was charged at the Police Court this morning with an offence wider tho Post and Telegraph Act, in that on July 14 lasts lie fraudulently stated that ho had posted a packet, when, in fact, lm had not done so.
Ohief-Doteotivo M'Mahen stated that a complaint was made to the postal authorities at Whangarei by the accused to the effect that ho had posted two letters containing , monoy to a young woman at Whangarei, who lmd not received them. Inquiries were made by a detective, and acouscd thon rao.de a statement that he lmd not posted the lettoi's. i
Counsel for the accused said that he had intended to state that the Jotters were in fact posted, and that his previous statement was made only to save the postal officials. The Magistrate held that a prima facie ease had been' made out, and, committed accused fov trial; Bail Was allowed.
