RE TRAMWAYS.
Sir,—As the City Council is probably booked for a lot of expense in reconstructing cars, would it- not be an opportunity for stopping tho making and altering of cars of present model, and considering whether it would not be advisable to run motor buses for' the present? They may possibly consider tho advisability of laying lines down at a wider gauge, to take cars accommodating four people abreast —with a centreaisle, instoad of three, as at present. As the streets here are rather narrow, there would not bo muoli room for competition in motor traffic, and as this city is likely to contain half a million people, I believe it would be wise for tho council to go into the figures of present cost mid ultimate profit. I think the resultant increase in accommodation would be to the advantage of the city. —I am, etc., WIDER GAUGE.
