ENTERTAINMENTS.

GENEE AND THE RUSSIAN DANCERS. At the Opera House this owning, J, 0. Williamson, Ltd.. will present for the first timo in Wellington the world's supreme dancer, Adeline Genee, together with M. Volinin, Mdllo, Halina Schmolz, and 1 the Imperial Russian Ballet. The programme will be opened by the first presentation in Wellington of tho great classic ballet "Les Sylpliides," which is intended to bo the realisation of the dream that passed before tho mental vision of Chopin aB he was composing the nrauc which is incidental to the ballet. Tho music includes tho wellknown "Nocturno" and "Prelude," as well as several of the waltzes, notably the "Waltz in E Flat" and the "Waltz in A Flat." "Les Sylpliides" is described as a very poem of movement, and l is presented in a beautiful woodland: setting, tho stage being crowded with dancers dressed in the old-time long, floating skirts of snowy muslin. Mdlle. Geneo will appear as tho First Sylph, and Mdlles. Halina Schmolz and Vlasta Novotna as tho Second and Third Sylphs respectively, with M. Volinin representing tho Spirit of Chopin. The seoond part of the programme will be opened with the performance by tho orchestra of the melodious "Barcarolle ' from "Tales of Hoffman," and then will be given a long series of dances under the title of "Divertissements," including the "Polka Yioletttf" by M. Vbhnin and Mdlle. Halina Schmolz. Another attractive feature will be given by Mdlle. Halina Selimolz, who will appear in "The Dying Swan," with Sajnt-Saens "Le Cygne played in the orchestra. Other dances include a humorous Chinese Dance, tho ■ Gipsy _ Beggars Dance by Alexander Volinin, the gavotte "Cupid" by Halina Schmolz, and the Australian Soldiers' Dance by Mdlles. Novotna and Zalewska. Tho third part- of tho programme will be dovoted to the presentation of the famous ballet, "Coppolia," which is said to reveal Geneo at the highest pinnacle of her art. The box plans will be at the Dresden till mid-dav, and in the afternoon at Christeson s, where early door tickets will also bo available.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The present vaudeville bill at His Majesty's Theatre is one of tho best seen there since the regime of the varity artist began. "Foolish Ford," with his strong-man act, is irrosistably comical, while there are two good musical turns, one by Gobriolle Hope, and another by "Tho Three Breeves." Tonight tho following artists appear for the last time: May Brilliant, Marjorie Daw, I)clevain and Gilbert, Lily Vockler, and The Bright Sisters. THE KING'S THEATRE. "Shipwrecked," tho fin© Kalam picture which has proved such an attraction at tho King's Theatre this week, will bo screened for the last time tonight and at. tho matineo this afternoon Tho ÜBiial change of bill will be njade on Monday night, THE EMPRESS THEATRE. Tho final screening of tho current iee of the Empress Theatre continuous pictures will take place to-day and tonight. Tho principal items Are the A.B. Company's sensational "feature" drama "Tho Adopted Brother," the Yitagraph "mafiterpif?co" drama "Tho Drop of Blood," and the Kalem drama "Tho Blind Baskot Weaver." These subjects are supplemented by "Alexandria" (scenes in Egypt), "Jlistorical Hastings" (travel), "Middlesex Yeomanry in Camp" (topical), "Her Wooden Leg" (Lubiu comedy) and "Auntie's Affinity" (comcdy). There will bo a oompleto change of programmo on Monday. SHORTTS' THEATRE. "The Web," a vsry fine Vitagrnph drama, is drawing' largo crowds to Shortts' continuous pictures at every session. The drama' is splendidly acted, aad tho plot is one tiiat appeals. This afternoon a Nordisk circus drama is to be screened, it is entitled "Tho Four Daredevils." ' THE COMPETITIONS. The third annual festival of the New Zealand Competitions Society commences at the Town Hall en Monday, Novembor 8. Record entries have been received, and from the high standard of tho talent competing it is stated that a most successful festival is assured. Season tickets, admitting the holder to all the sessions of tho festival except the two demonstration nights, are now on sale at tho secretary's office—price 16s. Tho box plan for season ticket holders opens at tho Dresden oil Wednesday", October 29, and for day sales on tho Thursday.

SUNDAY CONCERT. The AVellington City Band will give a concert atHis Majesty's Theatre tomorrow night. Mr. Coui-tenay V. Mohr will sing "The Windmill" and "Behold I Stand at the Door." Mr. Harry Pliipps will sing "Scent of the Lilies' and "For All Eternity" (with violin obbligato by Sir. Gilchrist). The band's items include selections, "Memories of Balfo" and "La Traviata," and a "special request" number, "White Lilies" gavotte. A silvor coin collection will be mado with the object of sending the band to the Exhibition band conteat.
