A strong force of lebels, many disguised as policemen, attacked tho police stations, In ono instance tho station was captured and tho wires cut. An alarm was raised, and troops, bluejackots, and firemen recaptured the station. Two hundred bluejackets, with quick-firers, were chiefly instrumental in mastering the situation. Strong patrols of infantry Mid cavalry scoured tho streets throughout tho night, dispersing disjointed bands of rebels, llie latter are well-armed. Latest advices state that troops are massed in the city, and that tho Ministries are strongly guarded. Monarchist newspapers havo been suppressed. Lisbon, October 23. Captain Continho, a French refugee, who is said to havo distributed arms in various parts of the country, has been arrested; also a number of men to whom had. been entrusted tho assassination of Dr. Costa, the Primo Minister. HIDDEN IN THE STR AW. (Reo. October 24, 11.30 p.m.) Lisbon, October 24. Tho Government is relentlessly repressing "monarchism." Ono hundred and thirty political prisoners have been removed from tho Lineeiro Prison to a frontier fortress. Paris, October 24. 'A story Is ourrent that a peasant was driving a oart fnll of straw across tho Spanish-Portuguese frontier, whon a Customs officer thrust his sword several times into the straw. After tolling tho driver to proceed, ho noticed blood trickling from tho cart. Tho driver sprang to the ground and fled, and tho officials found : amongst the straw tho body of a Royalist leader, his heart pierced by the Customs' officer's sword. Ho had boon trying to escape.
