The rain which fell yesterday morning interfered with cargo operations 011 the various steamers in port., With the exception of the Manuka and one or two steafners of the smaller coastal fleet, all work was at a standstill. The men who were working on the Jlanuka handled about 720 tons of cargo, and tho vessel sailed for Lyttelton shortly after 10 p.m. Tho Nikau's crowd put in an excellent day's work, and so did those employed on the Northern. Although not much cargo was offering for the smaller coastal boats, what did come along was handled expeditiously. / About 40 men wero engaged on the Rimutaka after 6 p.m., and four hours' good work was accomplished by freo labour and permanent hands.
