INFLUENCE ON AUSTRALIAN LOANS. By Telegraph—PreEfl Association—Copyright Frfimantle, October 23. Mr. W, L. Baillieu, who was Acting Agent-General for Victoria for a fow months recently, has returned. Regarding a statemont that tho underwriters intended to boycott Australian loans, ho said tho demand for money was much greater and widespread than five or ten years ago. Important centres were .being opened up in Brazil and elsewhere, and they required capital. Undoubtedly Australasian security was among the best in the world, but the underwriters would not lend to Australia at 4 per cent, interest when thoy could get 4.J or 5 tier cent.
