RAILWAY COMMITTEE'S The report of .thfr Railways Commit* teo on tho petition of Mr. A. Grandly son and 28 others iv'ho asked for an in" quiry into the causes at the railway accident at New Lynn in May last, was presented to the House of Representatives yesterday'. Tlio report road as follow. - !:— "That having heard tlio evidence o? the petitioners, the officers of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and tlio Locomotive Enginedrivers' firemen's and Cleaners'' Association, tlie officers of the Department, and other witnesses, tlio committo 19 of opinion that "(a) Tliero was a ligltt foe nt thd time of the collision. "(o) That tho railway facilities at 'New Lyiin are sufficient for tho safo working of the trains. , "Tho coimnitteo recommends: (I) That Porter Mortimer be exonerated. (2) That owing to his youth' and his not being of ripe experience, Drive? Coricli be re-instated in the service i 4 a lower position for a time.''
