KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE.
$ A great ileal of artistic taste lias been expended upon iho dresses worn by the various groups that aro taking part iu the pageant, and some very beautiful results have been obtained, the individual artistic gift of the organisers of each group having'a practically free-field for their exercise. Given a clear sunshiney day for next Saturday, Newtown Park will be the stago of a very unique and picturesque spectacle. One of the groups that affords an excellent opportunity for colour effects and beauty of design is that of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, which has been arranged by Mrs. Ranking Urown who lias designed everything in connection with it. The group will be headed by Merlin (Mr. Rankine Brown) who brought the young Arthur and set him before the people as their king, and 1 ending it will be Sir'Bedevew, who saw ' tho passing of Arthur and threw the brand Excalibur into tho "shining levels of tho lake." On Merlin's grey tunic aro stencilled all tho mystical signs of 1 tho zodias in colours that accentuate tho 1 wizard effect given by them and the long eloak slung from the shoulders behind still further carries out tho design by tho characters with which it is stencilled. Tho dress to bo worn by Queen Guinevere (Mrs. H. M. Gore) is a thing of beauty, all white and gold and green. The dress itself is white, or ratlier. a pale cream stencilled, with golden lluer de lys and from the back is slung an enormous train (borno by two pages in white and gold) lined with emerald green satin witli a design of golden liiics, the same design of lilies ornamenting the train. The small golden crown is_ in- : sot with green and golden coloured jewels. A maid of honour (Miss Macdonald) will also be in attendance, and alio will be in white and gold. King Arthur (Mr. Rawdon Bee re) will be in blue, black and silver, tlie grey tunic be- ' ing stencilled with designs in blue and ' black powdered with silver, the long blue cloak also having stencilled designs of ' black and silver. The golden helmet | is fronted with largo blue jewels,' and the large shield is ornamented with ' "the shining dragon." Tho brand Excalibur is not the least pari of his equipment. One of the most gorgeous costumes that will bo worn in this group is that of Morgue lo Fay (fairy | and a great clcrjc of necromancy), who will be represented by Mrs. Rankine Drown. The dress itself is white stencilled with black flowers, touchcd with - red, and the very long train is of emerald green satin, on which is scattered a design of peacock feathers, stencilled in gold and black, with a little faint 1 touch of amethyst red in the heart of them. The ■ two littlo pages will bo in grey and emerald green. Very hand- ' some and artistic also is tho dress worn by Geraint (Mr. Kennedy) of amethyst , and grey. The grey tunic is' figured with amethyst-coloured designs and • falling over the shoulders is a wide . amethyst silk scarf, applic[tred_ with flowers and jowels, and ending in two [ golden apples. Tho bolt if studded ~ with jewels, and the long cloak is amethyst, , stencilled with flowers. Sir Galahad (Miss L. Salmond) is another striking figuro in cream, patterned with red figures and Maltese crossed, tho long cloak corresponding to it, while Modred is a brilliant figurojn green. Lynctto (Miss Morison) is ih cream, stencilled with blue flowers and with a periwinkle blue cloak, powdered with silver. This dress is a particularly ! charming one. Sir Lancelot himself is richly handsome in dress, tho tunic being grey, profusely patterned with j designs in amethyst, ill keeping with . the amethyst-coloured cloak. The belt •' is studded with jewels, and in his golden helmet is fastened his lady's favour. I Each knight, of course, has his sword, and each detail of the dresses worn by tho various characters aro carefully thought out and carried into effect, the dresses worn by each lady of the Idylls 5 carrying out the colour sehemejof her 5 knight. Sir Bodercre (Mr. Christie) makes a very fine effect, with a flamecoloured tunic and grey cloak, powdered j with black and silver fleur do lys.
