SURF LIFE-SAVING.
PROPOSED ASSOCIATION. • delegates from tlio clubs in the Wellington interested in surf-life saving, was held on Saturday ovening,. Mr. G. S. Hill presiding. Tho object of .tlio meeting was to discuss tlio advisability of forming an institution to be known as tho Wellington Provincial Surf Bathers' Association, having objects similar to those of. the New 1 South Wales Surf Battling Association. exco.pt that tlio association should not ongago in the actual teaching of swimming and life-saving. After cursory discussion of tho matter it was decided that one of the main objects of tho association, if such were formed, bo the promotion of technical education in. tlio arts of swimming and, life-saving. It was contended that tho idea was premature by three or four years, for tlio important question of finanoo could not bo solved, and, further thercs wais no indication that the formation of other clubs would tako place anywhere in tho near future. Tiia. master was accordingly dropped. It was dccided, however, that delegates present bo recommended to convey to their respeetivo clubs the suggestion that a select committee, consisting of two delegates from each club, and tho chairman of tho Royal Life Saving Society (who would oxerciso his vote In caso of a tio only) bo appointed to discuss arrangements for opening days and galas, and generally to so. act as to crcato a better and closer feeling between tho clubs _ concerned. Mr. W. Collier was appointed honorary secretary pro tem.
