SALVAGING THE TYRONE.
(B? Teleernph.—Preeß Aasoctatlon.l DunetJin, October 20. Advantage waa taken of favourable weather conditions prevailing in tho vicinity of tho wrecked Tyrone to-day to bring off tho first consignment of salvaged cargo, llils consisted of about 30 tons of goods comprising about 1000 .coses of whisky and several tanks filled with crockery. The cargo was loaded on tlio _ punt Mntariki, which was then taken in tow by two launches, and brought to Dunedin. Some of thoso engaged upon salvage operations had a. rather unpleasant experience whilo blasting away some obstructions that interfered with work. One of the boats being used was just leaving tho vessel's side, when slio was struck by a big wave and capsized, throwing tho occupants into tho water. They woro speedily rescued by other members of tho party. It is hoped that telephonic communication will be established between the Tyrone and Port Chalmers to-morrow. Given fair weather the work of getting out tho cargo should advance rapidly. Rumour has it, however, that some of the whisky has already been "salvaged" by unauthorised persons, and .the Customs will lose duty on the liquor thus abstracted.
