CIVIL SERVICE SPORTS CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT. The.animal report of tlio Wellington Civil Service. Amateur Sports Club states that the membership is as under: Life ..member, 1; active members, 37; honorary members, I*l. During the season 11 new members ivero elected, while 14 members resigned or left the district.' "Unfortunately, it is again necessary to refer to the comparatively small membership. At the beginning of the season it was 'thought that, with tho very apparent increase of interest sliown to* wards, the Inter-Departmental touruamcnt, a considerable influx of new members might bo anticipated, but, as indicated by the above figure's, tho expectations in this direction were not realised. To some extent this may bo accounted for by the fact that the canvass for new members is invariably left to a fow executive officers of the club. Present members arc therefore urged to take an active part in securing new membership during, the coming season, and by so doing, show their appreciation of the club's efforts in promoting, itho annual Civil Service tournament. The finances must bo considered as being in a very satisfactory position. As indicated by the statement of receipts and expenditure, the club has a credit balanco of £12 6s. 2d., being a very considerable increase oil last year's figures, whilo the excess of assets over liabilities amounts to £29 Os. 8(1. \ Owing to shortness of funds at the beginning of the year, the club did not promote any evening sports meetings during tho season, but it is hoped that an early start will be made to commence a. series of evening sports meetings during tho ensuing season. Tho club extends its hearty congratulations to Sir. P. E. Doyle on his having attained New Zealand championship honours in tho high jump and 440 yards hurdles. ThVclub was also represented at the Now Zealand championship meeting by Messrs. liubbard, Bissebt, I'ugh, and M'Comisky, the firstnamed filling second place in tho long jump. At tho Wellington provincial championship meeting, tho club was also worthily represented, by the same five members. Messrs. Doyle, Hubbard, and liissett were successful in gaining championships in the high jump, long jump, and hammer-throwing events respectively. Mr. Hubbard also filled second plac-o in botli tho 100 yds. and 220 yds. events, while Mr. Dissett occupied a like position in tho shot-putting event. Through the transfer of Mr. J. Harvey to Wanganui the club has lost an enthusiastic member and an energetic committeeman.
