Tho Anglican Synod to-night adopted tho following resolutions:—''That in the opinion of this Synod it is desirable that women members, of the Church should be eligible to vote at parish meotinga for tho appointment of parish officers and matters in regard to the general business of the parish. The voting was: Clergy—Ayos 21, noes 2; lait.v—Aves 19- noes 1. BARQUE ASHORE. IN THE KAIPARA SHALLOWS. Auckland, October 20. Tho barquo Marjorie Craig, which arrived at Kaipara at 6 p.m. on Thursday last, is now on the sand off Shelly Beach, Helensville, and is likely to remain there for nine or ten days. The vessel left Newcastle on October 10 with a cargo of coal, and made the voyage to Kaipara in six days six hours. As is the custom, Captain Holmes dropped anchor there, and awaited orders. He was subsequently instructed to proceed to Helensville, and weighed anchor on Saturday morning, with a favourable northerly breeze. Tho weather changed suddenly, a stiff south-westerly increased, and, as there was littlo water in tho channel, the barquo veered from its course, and subsequently took the bank in the old ship channel. On Sunday two of tho river steamers were called into service, but all attempts to tow tho barque from tho ! bank were unsuccessful, as tho tides were low. It is intended to lighten tho . Marjorie Craig at- tho high spring tides, which are due in about ten days' time. Mo difficulty will be experienced in getting the vessel clear. She rests oil a sandy bottom in a perfectly safo position, and will sustain no damage. PHILANTHROPIC GIFT. Hawera, October 20. The Hawora Hospital Board to-day received,'a voluntary donation of £500 towards' the erection of a children's ward. A resolution was carried thanking the donators (who do not wish their nashes to bo published) for their magnificent offer, and a committee was appointed to take the necessary steps to nave the building erected. ONLY AN EMPTY SAFE. Wanganui, October 20, Burglars entered the premises of Arthur Coe, saddler, last night, and removed the safo to a stable yard near by, and opened it with explosives. Tho burglars wero disappointed, as the Bafe contained only some papers of no value to them. BURGLARS FOILED. Auckland, October 20. The manager of tho Auckland Meat Company, oil visiting the company's premises at Wakefield Street on Sunday night, found that an attempt had been made to break into the safe. The lock had been shattered by flu explosion, but the door had withstood the shock and remained closed, though the handle had been blown off. Considerable damage was done to tho offico furniture. A burned fuse lay oil the floor. Appearances indicated that a fairly big charge of gelignite or similar explosive had been used. • A LIBERAL REUNION. Stratford, October 20. The Town Hall was crowded to-night, when. Messrs. Thomson, Atmoro, aim Isitt, M.P.'s, gave addresses at tho Liberal reunion. Tho ' speakers, who wore well received generally, attacked tho Government's, policy and extolled tho good work of paJst Liberal Governments. They claimed that promises had not been kept, and that what the present Ministry condemned in the lato Government they were now doing. Cheers were called for and given for Sir Joseph Ward at the close o'f tho gathering. Tho following resolution was curried by acclamation:— this heartily thanks the 1 members for coming to Stratford and explaining tho political situation 'in such a lucid manner, and_ trusts that after the next general election the Progressive Liberal Party will once more guide the destinies of New Zealand, . and further they heartily congratulate Sir J. G. Ward oil assuming tho leadership of the party." SOLICITOR'S COSTS. Westport, October 20. At a meeting of the Westport Harbour Board to-day tho following resolution was carried:—"That tho letter dated September 29, addressed to tho chairman of the Harbour Commission of Inquiry relative to solicitors' costs was not in accordance with any resolution of the board." Mr. M'Donald, who takos sole responsibility for the letter, suggested that tho secretary should write the letter in question, and the board cannot endorse tho statements therein. 'The chairman reports that the matter of costs will reinamin . the hands of tho commission, and with the actual facts before them they can arrive at a fair estimate of' any _ services rendered without duly penalising the board's finances."
