' Tho Court of Appeal has confirmed tho sentences of Arthur Newton, the wellknown solicitor, and Berkeley Bennett, who in July last were found guilty of the misappropriation of moneys belonging to Hans Thosoh. Newton had been sentenced to three years' imprisonment, and Bennett to eighteen months. Newton and Bennett, an undischarged bankrupt firm of Half, Moon Street, wero charged with defrauding Hans Thosch of *£23,000. .Newton, was further charged with misappropriating the sum of In connection with a fine imposed on a, man namedj Mackay, but was acquitted. Thosch gave ovidence that lie was inducted to invest *£14,500 in Jlanchurian Concessions, Ltd. lie had not' received any return. Subsequently Newton and others persuaded him to invest .216,000 in alleged l land timber concessions in Canada.
