During tho winter months some twelve hundred men aro employed at Uibbo coal rninos, but, with tho approach of summer and tho consequent doorcase in con) consumption, tlio company always dispense with tho services of at least ono or two hundred men. About a fortnight ago sixteen miners received notico of the termination of their engagements as from October 17. and tho Miners' Union Executivo asked the company for a conference. Tho directors replied that a conforenco would be of no use, as theso men could not ba reinstated, and added that it was intended to put off moro miners at an. early date. As threo of tho men affected wore members of tho union executivo, victimisation, was alleged against tho company. The minors' meeting decided that tho mines would remain idla until tho men wore reinstated.' \ It is statod that a system of picketing, has already been arranged, and that a number of-men not in sympathy with the strikers have determined to proceed to work as usual on Monday. Interesting developments may bo expected.
