At the weekly meeting of the French Club, Captain Barclay presiding, tlio proceedings consisted of a debate on "1/nmour du sport chez lea Anglo-Saxons, est-il exagere?" The Hon.' Tho negative was defended by Mr. W. B. Bitd- ' son, who maintained that sport acts as an antidote to the more serious aft'iirs of life, and as such is followed with merely a healthy enthusiasm.' He contended that the love of sport is an indieatio-n that the race still retains .'its youth and virility. Other members participated in the 'discussion, which was productive of a good deal of amusement, and resulted strongly in favour of the negative side. Preceding the debate Captain Barclay contributed a song, "0! Xla Cteirmantei" and by way of encore, "Kconto Pccheur!" ; 1
