$ The monthly meeting of the Gi'eytown District High School was held last week; Present: Messrs. Walden (in tlia chair), W. I. Shanley, H. Humphries, G. Holdcroft, and. Henry. Correspondence was read from the Education Board regarding contract for new school being let to Messrs. Rose and Mason, of Masterton; also that tho board would consider tho question of contributing towards tho cost of Certain alterations. A letter was received from tho Masterton District High School Committee, stating that tho Education Amendment Act aimed.at depriving primary schools of subsidy on donations to their funds, and suggesting that the committee take action. It was resolved to do so. Tho treasurer reported the receipt of 255. from, tho board for the cost of cleaning cookery and woodwork rooms. The report of Messrs. Fleming and Bakewell (inspectors) was a very satisfactory one. A resolution was passed thanking tho headmaster and his assistants for. keeping the school in such a strong position, notwithstanding several drawbacks. Owing to the alterations which it is proposed to make in the new school, it was decided to ask tho board to allow the building, to bo crocted nearer the front of tho grounds. Messrs. Humphries, Nicholson, and Henry were appointed visitors for tho month. The premises of Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., will bo closed for special holiday oil Thursday, October 23. A clearing sale of sawmill plant, horses, timber, mill buildings, etc., at Hnkanui is advertised for Wednesday, October 22 by Mr- J. H. Griffith, auctioneer. An orchard property situated at Havelock North, three miles from Hastings, and staled to be yielding ,£SOO per annum in net profit is advertised for disposal by Messrs.
