October 17, 9.26 p.m.) Paris, October 17, Three generals in the French Army— Generals Plagnol, Cqurbebaisse, and Faurio, commanding Army ' Corps— General Bussat, commanding a division, General Alva, commanding a brigade, together with several minor officers, all in the Southern Army district were dramatically relieved from their commands owing to incompetency during grand manoeuvres.

One lost count of the position of his troops; another's direction of the Army Service Corps was so confused that the commissiariat broke down.

Three of tho generals fought gallantly in tho Franco-German War of 1870.
