Thirteen months ago, when t; e New South Wales State Assembly raised the salaries of members from £300 to £500, Mr, Wade (Leader of the Opposition), and a number of other members protested against such action till the electors had been consulted, and decline! to draw the increased pay. Most of the protesters have since succumbed, and drawn, the extra.money. The measure authorising the incretse provides that unless these are before Parliament ends, the claims jipss. Mr. Wade has now sought, and obtained, the consent of his constituents to draw the "nest egg."
