MIRAMAR MATTERS.
THE NEW' FACTOR. ELECTORS' ASSOCIATION MEET.
The first mooting of tho newly-formed Miramar Municipal Electors' Association was held laßt evening. The Mayor of Miramar (Mr. P. Towjisond) presided ovor an attendance of about thirty. Mr. Townsend Baid that he hoped that tbo association would havo tho hearty co-operation of all. If properly run it would do a great deal of good to such a borough as Miramar. He would advise tho association, howevor, not to go in for pin-pricking when criticising the council, and not to take for granted everything that they heard or read. In conclusion lie romarkod that the association was welcome at any time to como before the council to ventilato grievances.
Dr. Edith Huntly, president of tho association, then spoke. Tho association, slio said, had been founded in an impromptu sort of way at a recent meeting which had been convened to consider another question altogether. Sinco then the executivo of tho association had held several meetings and the constitution of the association had been formulated. Already the .new association had remedied one matter by bringing it under the notico of tho borough council. Tho speaker concluded by intimating that she was against tho proposal to amalgamate with tho city. Amalgationjmeant higher rates and somebody else to spend tho money for them. Tho _ secretary, Mr. Tomlin, dealt chiefly wltli tram matters. Tho way ini which the City Council served Miramar was unsatisfactory. At present the borough was really under tho thumb of the Gity Council. Ho thought that a through servico would' improvo matters. In fact, they would bo much bettetr off in Jliramar if a 'but Bervico wero run.
Speaking later iA the evening in ro-. garti to train matters the Mayor coiiicurred in tlio statement that the treatment meted out to tho borough by tho City Council in this direction was unsatisfactory. The time was not far distant, however, before something beneficial in this direction would bo achieved. Tho matter wn« now receiving the consideration of the City Council, and, as soon as there was anything tangible to report in, regard to the tramways, ho would call a public meeting. As far_ as amalgamation was concerned, continued the speaker, thby. might disabuse themselves about .{fiat at'presont. Thoy had had a number, of interviews on that matter latelv with tho City Council, and lie could say that Wellington City was not in a position at present to amalgamate. The rules of the association (framed on the lines of the rules of the Hataitai Ratepayers' Association) wero submitted for approval and passed. Officers were elected as follow; — President, 17r. Edith Huntly; vicepresidents, Mrs. Dowdry. Miss Navlor, and' Mr. Goorgo Edwards; committee," Mesda.mos E. C. Blair and C. B. Bowie, and Miss Navlor, and Messrs. H. N. M'Leod, H. Coombo, R. Douglas, A. Stowarii, G. Day, J. Campbell, and C. B. Bowie; sewotary and treasurer, Mr W. C. Tomlin.
