[Bt Glencoe.]
Owners are reminded that 1 acceptances for tho first day's events at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting are duo to-morrow night.
General entries for the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting close , toriiorrow night. Acceptances for the City Handicap aro duo at the. same time.
Now Zealanders wlio returned from Australia yesterday state that "Mr. J. Baron," owner of Duke Foote, showed, little concern when tho crowd hooted and jeered the Duke after the Spring Stakes at Ilandwick. Ho merely 'took off his hat and smiled in good humour. In an interview with "Terlinga," of the "Australasian," "Mr. Baron" said the public could always rely on,his horses being "triers'' when thoy started, but ho was not going to allow tho public to dictate to him as to what races he should start his horses in. He further stated that he would not hesitato to withdraw. Duke Footo from the Melbourne Cup at a late stage if the horso's condition did not warrant his being started.
Witli 1 fino weather to-day there will, doubtless, be a big attendanco of Wellington sportsmen at the Masterton meeting. On present ap(>earances it looks as if there will bo several shortpriced favourites, and two of these should be Lconta in the Spring Handicap and Iminer in the Flying Handicap. Immediately on the appearance of the v,'eights this double was hoavily supported, and at tho time of writing there is nothing availablo that way. T. l'ritchard lias asked and received permission to get off Mount Victoria, so that he may ride Immer. Leouta will bo in tho hands of C. Price, who seems to thoroughly undorstand tho big gelding.
Ngarua, tho half-brothor to St. Toney and Makara, will, probably bo the favourite in the Trial Stakes, and Zeus, if ho strips anything liko fit, should command heavy backing in tho Telephone Handicap or tho Dash ' Hack, whichever ho starts in. It is well known that when ho . was trained by It. J. Mason lie was ono of the fastest horses in tho stable, but was somewhat of a delicato nature.
If a suitable horsoman can bo obtained for Lmbriline ho will bo very dangerous in the Ladies' Bracelet. Master Lupin, who is top weight, with 12st. 71b.. will probably start favourite in this raCß.>
Record, who is 0110 of P. Tilly's string, lias a privnto reputation, and this may inako him favourite in tho seven furlongs hack race.
A like position should be occupied by Awaliou, Bst. 01b. (]V. Boll) iu the Stewards' Handicap.
Among the arrivals from Sydney by yesterday's steamer, were several New Zealand sportsmen. They included: Mr. E. J. Watt, Mr. Luttrcll, Air. George Currio, who bred Beau Soult; J. Hennail, the owner trainer of Julian; Trainore R. J. Mainn, P. Davis, and J. Williamson ; and the jockeys, A. Oliver and P. D. Jones. Thoso who noted the running of Em-
perador in his various engagements, do not- favour the chances of tho Charlemagne horso in tho New Zealand Cup.
Bon Ton is said to bo suffering from a bruised heel, and it is reported that ho is not likely to seo the post in tho New Zealand Cup. Tho stablo will, it is understood, rely on Bon Revo. Tho latter., who is now favourite for the Cup, will not bo brought to Trentham.
Mr. G. F. Mooro's brood mare Helen Portland, dam of tho Wanganui Guineas winner (Bonny Helen), was shipped south last night on a visit to Boniform. She was in charge of Studgroom J. Hay.
Julian, who went amiss just prior to tho Ilandwick races, was brought back to New Zealand yesterday. The Mcrriwee gelding will be railed to Hastings this morning in charge of F. Cress.
Advice from Wanganui states that tho Alawa —Crucmella yearling filly met with an accident recently, and as a result a veterinary surgeon had to bo called to attend her. A wound on tho filly's head necessitated stitches, and tho .youngster will probably carry a mark of the mishap for somo time to come..
Anna Carlovna, who won tho Eclipso Stakes at Caulfield yesterday, and who is a strong favourite for tho Caulfield Cup to he run on Saturday, is by Soult (son 'of St. Simon) from Czarovna, by Stepuiak (son of Nordenfeldt) from Britomart, by Gorton (son of Thunderbolt) from Lady Gertrude, by Cadogan (son of Cremorno) from No Name, by Traducer, and goes back to Manto, the ancestress of Trenton. Anna Carlovna was bred at Kelburn Lodfje, in New Zealand, by Mr. Hugo Fricdlander, and her dam was bred in the Burnside stud by Mr. J. F. Reid. Britomart was q. sister to that gqod horse Euroclydon. Her sire, Gorton, was an imported 'horso bv Thunderbolt, a horse who must not be confused with tho son of Musket who was for so many years in tho Fulham Park stud. Tho Thunderbolt who sired Gorton was by Stockwell.
Foalings reported from Mr. G. F. Moore's Bushy Park stud are as follow: —-Armistice (Jlahaki —Melinite), a brown colt to Signor; Helen Portland (Dorchester—Lady Helen),-a bay colt to Signor; True Shot (Pistol —Alveary), a bay filly to Signor; Colleen (Gossoon —Miss Nora), ajblaek filly to Signor; Crucinella (San Francisco —Charento), a bay colfc to Signor; Rau Rau (Gipsy King—Torori), a chestnut filly to Signor; and Ma Mio Rosette (Trenton — Bonnie Rosette), a brown filly to San Fran. Orchestra (dam of The Cornet and Fugue), who is probably tho only Goldsborough mare in Now Zealand today, is at tho Bushy Park stud on a visit to Signor.
