THAT INSURANCE FUND. AND STIPENDIARY STEWARDS. Following up his protest of somo weeks ajio, Mr. J. S. Dickson, member for Parnoll, asked the following question in tho Houso of Representatives:— "AVhether they have yet ascertained that tho Racing Conference projioso to divert funds raised for tho assistance of injurfcd jockeys to tho payment of stipendiary stewards; and, if so, what steps do they proposo to take to prevent tho same."

Tho Prime Minister replied: "Tho Government is informed by the president of the Racing Conference that thoro has been no proposal to so divort funds, and that there are, in fact', no funds specially raised for tho assistance of injured jockoys. There is an accident fund for the assurance of owners against the. statutory liability of such owners in the case of accident, which is provided by contributions of owners of horses in proportion to > the - number of horses owned by them. It is in fact a mutual assuranco fund of tho owners, and its existence does not in the le-p.t nfFfof the statutory right of an injured jockey to recover compensation from his employer. Power has been taken to apply the surplus of this fund, if necessary, towards provision for stipendiary stewards, but, so far, no part of the surplus has been so applied. In any ease it is plain that no valid reason can be given for any interference under tho circumstances'." AT FLEMINCTON. By Teleeraph—Press Association—Oopyrisht Flcmlngton, October 15.
