HISTORICAL PAGEANT.
The Historical Pageant is to open about tho beginning of the Christian era with a group • representing Julius Caosar, who landed in Britain in So n.c. with the Tenth Legion of Roman Soldiers. As tho flooding of tho pageant ground would inconvenience tho other episodes, it has been decided, to depict prominent characters among the Romans and Britons, as on terra iirnw, from tho time of tho invasion through the gradual conquest and occupation until, for domestic reasons," Ronio saw fit to withdraw. Prominent characters, such as Claudius, Julius Agricola, Boadicea, and Cassivelannus will be shown.' This group is in the hands of Mr. J. F. Atkins and Mrs. Grant, assisted by Mr. C. Toetere. Tho invasion by tho Saxons, in 449 a.d., brought into prominence Arthur and his Round Table of Knights/who opposed tho invaders with martial prowess. The romantic side of this epoch in history, well known to all through Tennyson's "Idylls of tho King } " is that put prominently forward m the second group. Arthur, Lancelot, Guinovcro, Merlin, and all tho characters made familiar-to all from tho beautiful legends which surround their deeds and adventures, will bo faithfully portrayed. Tennyson's lines have .been scanned with tho utmost caro, for every hint as to the exact colour and design of every robe, cloak, and train. Jewels of fabulous size and lustre will' sparkle on belts and baldricks. It is stated that a learned professor has developed talent in the making of helmets, and Aurora Terrace has witnessed the effect of recent sunny days in giving lustre and brilliancy to the rich mediaeval cos-, tumes, designed, and carried oui with laborious care by tho organiser of the group, Mrs. Rankino Brown.
