HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
— ♦ The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. Present: Councillors W. Galloway (chairman), J. Wakeham, T. Edwards, J.- Whitoman, M. Welch, and W. J. Howell. 'An application by A. S. Birr for a footpath extending from the East Road to tho Golf Club house was granted. The General Maiihger of the Railway Department wrote, asking that access bo given by Rewi Street for crossing the lino at Paraparaumu.—Tho application was refused. A letter was received from the Health Department regarding a poultry farm at Bolmont and its requirements.—lt was decided to draw tho attention of the owner to the matter. The Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) reported that a start had been made with the concrete culvert on tho Western Hutt Road, and the work was progressing satisfactorily, A twonty-one-foot span was to be taken out of the Belmont Bridge, near Mr. Speedy's, and tho filling-in with spoil would bo commenced to-day. A twelve-inch by 34ft. pipe culvert, was. required fronting Mr. Burrell's property, while a 9incli culvort bad been put in on .Paekakariki Hill, near Horokiwi Riding. The inspector directed attention to the state of the fences round tho gorges in Epuni Riding, and recommended that they be repaired. Progress on the Pahautanui-Upper Hutt Road contract had been slow, but tho Pukerua fencing contract had been completed. He recommended tho renowal ' of a small bridge near the school in Whiteman's Valley, also ono on tho road leading to Mr. A. Gorrie's.
