BRISTOL OR LONDON?
MR. LYSNAR AND HIS CRITICS. (By Telepraph —Prees AjBoolatlon.) Clsborno, October 18. Upon his rotum from the south, Mr. W. D. Lysnar made a reply to Mr. Donald Ross, of Wanganui, regarding the facilities of London and Bristol and other West Coast ports for handling .New Zealand produco. Mr. Lysnar said that Mr. Ross was labouring under an erroneous impression when ho thought that the intention was to abandon London. It was intended to have a selling staff in London, but New Zealand producers would only supply London at the same prices they wero able to obtain in the North of England. Moreover, ho claimed that Now Zealand could supply Smithfield' with meat cheaper, cleaner, awTquickcr through Bristol than through London. It was admitted that it would bo two years before London had received the iiew port equipment which was contemplated, and we should not be content to go 011 as we are until these improvements were finished. AVe were practically losing about £5,000,000 per annum in consequence of the bad system of handling and marketing through London. Concerning a statement by Mr. Ross that if tho Bristol scheme was adop tedthe Argentine trade would ho driven to London Mr. Lysnar said: "There again our friend labours under a misapprehension. The Argentine has got alj the trade they can possiblyprovido for to-day in London, and it is impossible for them to do anything more than fiiey aro doing to-day."
