Open Championship.
Tlie first two rounds of the Open Championship were got off. None of the scores are very noteworthy, with the exception of that of E. S. Douglas, the Nelson professional who went round in the; afternoon m 71, after a performance of 77 in the morning. The best amateur Tound was that by Duncan, 78 in the afternoon, closely followed by H. E. Wright, 79 in the morning. The amateur record for the green is held by D. ,J. Smith (Otago Club). Players wore handicapped by lack of caddies, nearly all of them carrying their own clubs. About half a dozen boys were engaged, and in three or four other cases players had the benefit of the services of either sisters or brothers.
