'A COINCIDENCE. / It is said that tho late Mr. Augustus •">' Hamilton, Director -of tho Dominion Mu'seumj whoso death at Russell was announced yesterday, had on moro'than • ;ono occasion expressed tho wish to members of his family that one day ho hoped io be able to retire and end his days in tho Bay of Islands—a. place ho was very fohd of. His final mission to Russell/it is believed, was to try and recover somo valuable historical 1 documents appertaining to the earliest history of British settlement in New Zealand, which documents were believed to be existent in the north, so that his Visit to his'favoured spot'was as accii dental as his death'was lapieutablo. Tho ■coincidence recalls the lino in tho famous verso inscribed on tho tomb of Robert I.miis Stevenson at Vailima (Samoa): — ''Here he lies where he longed to be."-.
: Mrs. Hamilton was expected to arrive at R.tisseil last evening, and Mr. Hamilton's funeral will talco place there ' today. ' Much sympathy. is being expressed for tho deceased's only son, Mr. H. Hamilton, who is immured at the Macquarie Islands,. where as biologist for the Mawson party he has done a great deal of valuable work. The Dominion Museum was closed yesterday and will bo closed to-day as a, mark of respect to tho deceased.
