At a. meeting of tho Wellington Bran<;h of the Ship Owners' Federation yosterday correspondence relating to tho pay of masters.and officers of tho smaller coastal steamers was' received from the Merchant Service Guild. It was decided that tho federation endeavour to arrange for a conforonco with representatives of- tho guild for tho purpose of discussing tho proposals' put forward, by that body so far aa they affect officers and not tho masters. Alter ; a consultation with the guild it was arranged that tho conference be heldto-morrow. Representative's of the guild will bo Captain Brigden (mastor of the Queen of the South), Captain Watson (secretary, of the guild), Messrs. C'rotty (mate' of tho Stormbird), and Leers (mate of, the Kaliu),
