Lord Grey, Lord Roberts, Lord Strathcona, and others have signed an appeal for national subscriptions to secure adequate representation of the United Kingdom at the Olympic Games of 1916 in Berlin. British athletes wero unable to do justice to themselves or their country in 1912 owing to lack of funds. A sum of .8100,000 is desired to establish a permanent organisation. Tho necessity for tho adequate lighting and ventilation of offices is urged in tho report of the City of London Medical Officer. He regrets that at a time when so much is done for tho tuberculous patient, local authorities have not moro efficient powers for remedying conditions which contribute to tho spread of tho disease. With regard to women clerks, ho says typewriting makes a peculiar tax on nerve and brain, and it is of vital importance that it should bo done under conditions carefully and intelligently considered from the health standpoint.
