AT THE CROSS ROADS.
At the recent Oxford Summor Mooting Canon Hastings llashdall preached on "Christianity at the Cross Roads." It was, lie said, undeniably true that Christianity was at tho cross-roads. What they wero inclined to forget was that Christianity had many a time been at the cross-roads bofore. It.was-one of tlio best results of historical study that they discovored that, in point of fact, tlio idea of a fixed, stereotyped, unchanging Christianity was a mere myth—bearing 110 relation at all to historical facts. Over and over again Christianity had renewed its youth. The preacher then described the chief changes which had occurred in tho intellectual outlook of the world at largo, and urged tlio need of religious self-edu-cation. Why should not tho University Extension Movement develop itself in such a way as to help people in tho work of theological reconstruction? Why should there not bo University Extension lectures or tutorial classes on religious subjects? Ho would not attempt to say whether this now work should be undertaken by any of Mio existing organisations of by some now organisation. Ho was only sure of two tilings: firstly, tho extreme importance of such study, and, secondly, that if there wero any widely expressed demand for help in buoli studies, tho doBiend could easily be m«t.
