CITY RESERVES.
CONTROL OP THE TOWN BELT.
A! publio meeting is to bo held in tho Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall on Wednesday. His Worship the Mayor will preside, and several resolutions relating to tho administration of tho city reserves will be moved by well-known citizens.
Tho resolutions to bo proposed at tho meeting are as under:—(l) "That this publio meeting of citizens strongly protests against the action of the City Council in its recent dealings with a portion of tho Town Belt by way of lease without having first adopted a comprehensive plan for tho development of the Belt." (2) "That this meeting is strongly opposed to tho City Council entering into any leases or granting anv privileges over any part of tho Town Beit until such time as a comprehensive plan for its development has been adopted, that the City Council bo asked to take immediate Bteps for tho preparation of such plan, and that the citizens shall have an opportunity of viewing and discussing it before its adoption by tTio council." (3) "That this meeting is also opposed to any future leasing by the council of any portion of tho city reserves of the granting of any privileges in respect thereof without reasonable public notice of the intention being given." (4) "That it is tho desire of tliis meeting that tho City Council at tho earliest opportunity do iirge tho Government to introduce legislation to amend' the Wellington (City) Town Belt Reserves Act, 1908, so as to give effect to the resolutions of tills meeting with tho object of safeguarding tho interests of «j>e citizens of Wellington for all time."
