FOOTBALLER SUCCUMBS.

TO HURTS SUSTAINED IN MATCH,

(Br Telegraph—Press Association.) Wostport, October 10. John M'Nally, a footballer, known throughout the Dominion, died this morning after nn operation for internal injuries. Ho played in a football match on Saturday, and said then ho had been injured, although ho was at work in tho Railway Workshops on Monday. He was about thirty-two years of age, and was a widower with ono child.

MAORI DIES ON TRAIN.

Palmerston N., October 10. A Maori died on tho New Plymouth express this morning. His luggage was addressed, "Putara, Hawcra. Ho is beliovcd to have com© from Picton. He was taken suddenly ill botween Porirua and Paekakariki, and died shortly aftor. It is thought he took a fit.

[The body of Putara was brought to Wellington yesterday afternoon. An inquest will bo held at tho Courthouse at 10 o'clock on Monday morning. Deceased was a resident of Hawcra. Death took placo whilo the train was proceeding through one of the tunnels on tho Wellington _ sido of Paekakariki. Between Porirua and Paremata ho was standing on tho carriage platform, but oil going insido ho appeared to faint in his seat. Tho passengers laid him on cushions on tho floor and otherwise attended to him, but ho died shortly aftor his collapse.] ENGINE-DRIVER CRUSHED. At Paekakariki yesterday afternoon Edward Moroney, an engine-driver, employed on tho railways, mot with a severe accident. ■ After walking in front of an engine to alter tho points, he was about to step up on to tho cat of tho engine when ho missed his footing and was crushed between tho engino and a wall. Ho is at present in the Wellington - Hospital. INFANT'S DEATH. Hilda Lord, four and a half months old, died in tho Aloxandra Homo, Hanson Street, oil Thursday morning. It is supposed that heart failure was tho cause. An inquiry will bo hold at 9 a.m. on Monday. ,
