HOCKEY.
TROPHIES PRESENTED. TWO MORE CUPS PROMISED. Two more cups are to become the property of tlio Wednesday Hockey Association, to bo attached to their championship contests. The White Cup, which lias been competed for since 1907, was won outright by the Potonc Club this season, and ill place of this. Mr. Empson, one of the Association s reforees, will present a cup. The donor lias stipulated that tlio now tropliy cannot bo won outright. Mr C. J. Pfaff, vice-president of tlio association, will also present a cup to the association, on the understanding that it cannot bo won outright. These announcements were made at the annual hockey re-union held in the Tiffin last night. There waß a large attendance of players and officials, and the chair was taken by Mr. J. C. Cusack, president of the association. When the trophies/'wero being presented tlio White Clip was permanently handed over to the Potono Club, whose win was the_ third in succession. Tho winners of this tropliy in different years wore:—l9o7, Pakelia; 1908, Pake-ha; 1909, Artillery; 1910, Pakelia; 1911, 1912, and 1913, Petone. _ ■ The trophy for tho six-a-side tournament was presented' to the Pakliea A team (Paget, Jones, Thompson, M'Killop, Lyons, and Sheoran). Tho results of tliis t-ournament liavo been:— 1909, Pakelia A; 1910, Pakelia A; 1911, Hui Mai ; 1912 and 1913, Pakelia A. ■ Trophies were presented, on behalf of the Pakelia Club, as follow:—Best back A team (Mr. Paget), best forward A team (Mr. Sheoran), best all-round player B team (Mr. Spiers), and mostimproved player (Mr. Mason). Toasts honoured during the evening included: "The Wellington Hockey Association," proposed by Mr. Jackson and responded to by Mr. M'Gregor; " Tho ■ Winning Teams," proposed hy Mr. Pfaff, and responded to by Messrs. M'Ewan and Paget; " The Wednesday Association," proposed hy Mr. A. A. Bennett and responded to by tho chairman (Mr. Cusack): and "The Referees," proposed by Sir. Gracie and responded to by Messrs. Empson and M'Kenzie. Items to tlio evening's entertainment were contributed by Messrs. Bennett, M'Ewan, Dolling, Hunter,' Bolter, Jacksoil, M'Gregor, Pfaff, and Reader.
Amongst the proposals which tho Roman Catholic Federation of Now Zealand has in view is the establishment ill Wellington of an immigration and labour bureau, in order that Komnn Catholics arriving from tho Old Country will bo given every facility for ascertaining as accurately as possible tho condition of the labour market in the various parts of New Zealand. It is not intended to niako any charge for employee or employer for any- obligcmcnt, but if either caro to make a donation to the federation's funds it will bo gratefully received. Full particulars will also be supplied at tho bureau as to ways and means for residents of New Zealand' to get their relatives out to this country. Through tho generosity of Mr. Martin Kennedy, the federation has secured a board-room in Lower Cuba Strcot, which will bo open all day, in order that no Catholic may bo without a friend and a-word of advice. Mr. Girling Butcher has boon appointed organiser of the federation.
