A boy named Solan Arthur, two years old. who found .a bottle of poison and drank a quantity,' died in the Hoe< pital this morning. SERIOUS TRAP ACCIDENT. , , Hastings, Ootober 8, Mrs. Webb, wife of Richard 'Webb, storekeeper, of Mahora South, was thrown out of ; a trap to-day through the, horse taking fright at a traction engine in Heretaunga Street. Tho accident was attended by fracture oMha , skull, and the condition of the patient is serious.
I | Captain Taylor, representing Lloyd's I in Australasia, left Dunedin for Sydney en route to Brisbane by the Victoria last evening. Mr. T. Barr left Lyttelton for Wellington by the Mararoa last evening. Captain Pearoe. editor of tho "Pastorahsts' Review," who has been touring Canada and the United States, ia returning to Sydnoy by tho Mararaa, which left Vancouver for Australia last week. Mfl A. S. Legh, who has for twelva , yoars acted as travelling representative in Now South Wales for the Dunlop Rubber Company, has been appointed to manage that company's Now \Zoaland business at Christchurch. Mr. Georgo MacMorran, headmaster of the Terrace School, has been nominated by the South Canterbury Teachers' Institute for tho position of president of tho Now Zealand Educational Institute. Dr. Martin, of Dunedin, and Mrs. Martin were passengers by the Warrimoo, which- arrived from Sydney yesterday morning. Mr. A., S. Malcolm, member for' Cliutha, left for the south last, night ia response to a hurried call on .account of illness in liis family. Mr. J. Payno gave notico of a ques- . tiom in the House of Representatives yesterday, asking the Primo _ Minister whether he would this session introduce > legislation to allow the registration of! thoso unregistered nurses who were l entitled to register in 1901, but who; failed to do so owing to various circumstances.
