SWIFTS ' CLUB'S REPORT. ' The fifteenth annual report of fl lo Swift's Swimming Club to bo presented at tlio annual meeting 011 Monday next states: — ' "Following upon l a season that was bad meteorologically) the past season left a good deal to be desired';' Your . officials, however, were successful j& getting off a_ lengthy programme, and the events (including those of tho , ladies' branch) totalled 31, the prize money distributed amounting to £3(J. odd. The club's carnival, held on Jan- - ! uary 25, was a decided success. The j weather was lino, but the attendance of.' ! the public (doubtless duo to tho attract i tion of the AA'ellingbon; Races and other ' gatherings), was a little } The Smith Cup again provided keen competition, and was finally won by H. j K. Johnston, who secured 6 points;, j whilo R. Grimmett and A. Russell cams i equal for second with each 5 points. Tlio Vj trophy donated by Mr. W. Skegg for j the most consistent performer through-, . ] out tho season was captured by E.' . Vango, who swam with great consis- j tency. Tho club's polo teams were 1 again. runners-up for _ the champion-, j ships (senior and junior) and on both 'j occasions when the seniors played tho ; winners of the banner a drawn gamer i resulted. Thejunior team was beaten in a : ] filial play-off with tho Wellington Club'a I s team, • and tlireo of tho club's senior ■ j team—H. Jenkinson, A. Smith, and 0. V:j Fordham — obtained representative 1 honours. 'Die milo handicap was again a feature of tho season, being won liy E. Donovan with AY. G. Morpeth, se*cond. In tho Walker and Hall flying squadron raco the club's team —C. V, ! Fordham, H. Jenkinson. H. Little, G. , M'Grath, and A. Smith—swam tsiird r . just being beaten for second place. Thi team was, however, not fully represent- . ative of tho club's strength, B. C. ) Freyberg and Aub. Smith being unablo j to compete. Tho club was again en-' :j trusted with tho conduct of tho school; j girls' and boys' championships, whieJjU*,' were successfully dccided. Rather than, j build up a bank balance your commit-; j tee, as in previous seasons, preferred l ;J to devote as much of tho fundß as t -] siblo to tho club events. During the* - season the weather was ofttimes most discouraging, and for this reason 1 , doubtless the entries in the senior club! ] events were hardly as heavy as youri'j committee could have . desired. Tho,' j Junior members showed a lino siasm, and your- committee suggestS'si' that more attention be devoted to t-lio! j younger girls. The carnival was again i j a success. Thirteen events were got off; > during tho season. As in previous sea- i sons the Atkin Cup provided some very;'. 1 keen racing, tho tropb.y being eyent-u-'r j ally casried off by Miss F. liicks, who ' j .secured 8 points, Misses D. Gibbs-and; ] ,;H. Murrell ivoro next, eadi - having. 1 gained G points. Miss Hicks showedj considerable improvement in her . swim-, - j nmig, and undoubtedly deserved ; her • j win. The cliib championship was last j season won by Miss H. Murrell, ivho*. ' swam very consistently throughout tha season, tho thanks of tho branch are V; due to Mrs. Lamb (lion, treasurer) who \ carried out lier work in a very enthusiastic manner. ,
